I like working at Wakefern because: Wakefern is a very unique and special place. The company truly cares for its people. There’s also a significant focus on change and innovation, which permeates all of my workstreams.

Why is your work important? I feel my work is important because we nourish communities. My team and I make sure we meet our customers’ needs no matter where they are, or how they’re choosing to shop.

Where do you see the future of Wakefern 25 years from now? I believe we’ll be bigger and better than we are today. We’ll continue to be seen as the preeminent grocer in the Northeast and beyond, and the grocer of choice, no matter what stage of life a customer may be in or what time of the week they shop.

Why did you pick Wakefern? I’m a grocery store nerd. I love the grocery store. I literally could spend six hours in the grocery store. Once I learned about Wakefern, I kept my eye on it as a potential place to work – and now I’m here. This is my dream job, and I couldn’t be happier.

What do you wish people knew about Wakefern? I wish people knew the power Wakefern has with such enormous brands under its portfolio. Not only is Wakefern an innovative and exciting place to work, but it cares deeply about its people. It has a great culture, and everyone is so dedicated to putting in the work to get things done and do a great job.

Derrick oversees asset protection at our distribution centers. He’s responsible for safeguarding our associates, our customers, and our physical facilities. “Things are always evolving and changing, and we have to be nimble and develop asset protection strategies that support the ever-changing landscape.”

What makes an associate at Wakefern successful? If an associate is open-minded, has the desire to learn new things, and can take something from beginning through to implementation, they will do well here.

How would you describe the culture at Wakefern? No two days are the same here, but there are opportunities to learn and grow at all levels. Great ideas are truly welcome here. Our leadership team listens to associates and is always open to learning how we can do things better.

How has Wakefern enabled you to give back to the communities you serve? I’ve had the pleasure over the years to support the New Jersey Special Olympics. I’ve volunteered at the Torch Run several years and helped at the New Jersey Special Olympics event itself. To do so has been fulfilling for me personally, and they’re experiences I’ll always cherish.

Angel oversees Produce Division operations, focusing delivering the best level of service to our members and ensuring the on-time delivery of produce to put the freshest product out there.

I like working at Wakefern because….: Wakefern is a beautiful place to work. Once you start working here, you fall in love with what we do. Everyone works together, giving their best to deliver to our members, customers, and community.

Why do you recommend working at Wakefern?: At Wakefern, the sky’s the limit.  If you work hard and put your effort and passion into what you do, you can go far in this company.

Why is your work at Wakefern important?: My work is important because we help people to eat healthy and be happy. I put a lot of passion into what I do because I love what I do, and I work with amazing people.

Why did you choose to work at Wakefern?: I came from Cuba in 1995 speaking almost no English, and with empty pockets, and started working at Wakefern in 2004 as a regular supervisor. When I first walked into the warehouse, it was so big and I remember saying to myself, “This place is going to eat me alive.” But once I started working here, I got that family feeling that surrounds our company – everybody helped to train me and get a handle on how we do things around here. I quickly fell into place and embraced our mission. I love that we have clear core values of integrity and work innovation. You see people from all ethnicities and backgrounds and different positions advancing. I gave my best, and that’s brought me to where I am today. And hopefully, I’m not stopping here. I’m going to go as far as I can, to help Wakefern be able to keep helping to fight hunger and the communities we serve — to and give this company the best I can give since it gives its best to me.

What does success look like at Wakefern?: Success at Wakefern is the combined effort of everyone who works here; each of us giving the best we can. And when we succeed individually, Wakefern succeeds.
